DOUBLE NEGATIVE

Last Tuesday! (7/29 for those of you who care)

Oh man. This was a good day. We had class, which was a great discussion about modern art, and then we got the most wonderful news! We were ending the program with a bit more money than expected, so they handed out 100 pounds to each of us! WHAT?!?! :D Money, money, money!

Now the thought did cross my mind that I could keep this and exchange it and deposit back into my bank account, but....frankly, I wanted some spending money dang it! And I've already consigned this money as 'spent' anyway, so I might as well use it to make my last week here amazing. :D So right after class I took Malori and Alexis to the crepe café just down the street for some more amazing crepes!

Yum!!

Guess what we did next?!?! One of Jeff's old students works at Double Negative, which is a visual effects house here in London. Shall I show all the incredible movies they've worked on? Yes, yes I shall. Here's a link to their showreel for 2013: http://www.dneg.com/showreel/ . My dream is to work in an effects house. I would LOVE to sit and work post production on films! But alas, I'm not much of an artist, but perhaps I could be the editor that puts the dailies together and clips to show the director. :D Seriously, this place was so cool and I would love to work for DNeg someday, which I could because they are opening up a Vancouver branch soon! :D

They got their start as Christopher Nolan's VFX house, and so they worked on all his films. Here's the awards they've earned. And yes, that's the REAL LIFE OSCAR that they won for the Dark Knight visual FX. :D :D :D

So cool! After having us all sign an non-disclosure agreement and put on badges, they took us downstairs to one of the theaters they use to show clips and scenes to the directors and such, and showed us their showreel and some breakdowns of visual effects they've done. He answered our questions and talked about the company. It was heaven. :D Then he walked us around the building and we got to see real live people at work! Haha! No, it was actually really cool. They had posters of the movies they'd worked on hung up everywhere and most of them were signed by the cast or the director. SO COOL!

After that wonderful, wonderful afternoon we went to the BFI to watch our last couples hours for homework! Yay! I've really enjoyed the BFI though, and its so cool that anyone can walk in for free and watch British film history and culture, most of which you can't view anywhere else.

Then for that night's activity, we went for a bike ride! All over London there are bicycle stations that you can rent from for 2 pounds. We missed riding through Hyde Park at sunset due to rental issues, but we did catch the last bit of sun for the day. It was gorgeous and refreshing and I really really enjoyed it. What a way to end the day!
